The Denver Nuggets and The New York Knicks have had ongoing talks surrounding star forward Carmelo Anthony.
Here is the lasted rumored deal.
- Wilson Chandler
- Danilo Gallinari
- Raymond Felton
- 1st round pick
New York Receives:
- Carmelo Anthony
- Chauncey Billups
- Some fillers
In this rumored deal, the Denver Nuggets would need to throw in some “fillers” in order to make the trade work.
Let’s take a look a few Denver Nuggets that could end up in New York.
Sheldon played his collegiate ball at Duke University and had an excellent career there. In the NBA Sheldon has not been nearly as successful as he was in college, but he would be a solid addition to a team competing in the playoffs.
During his seven-year career Sheldon has never received a large amount of playing time; however, the one thing Williams has showed he can do is rebound.
This year in Denver, Williams is averaging 17 minutes per game, and during that time he is collecting about six rebounds and about five points.
This year the New York Knicks have lacked anyone that can rebound the ball. Aside from their rookie guard Landry Fields, there is no one that is expected to get more then six rebounds on any given night. Bringing in Sheldon would give the second unit a rebounding presence that has not been there before
Sheldon is build like a block. He is wide and stout and is a great at boxing-out.
The fact is that the New York Knicks can always use another rebounding PF, and Sheldon would be a great player to fill that void.
Chris (Bird-Man) Anderson
Birdman is known for his energy. Let’s face it; in New York energy is a must. Ronny Turiaf is the energizer bunny on this team, but he could always use a sidekick.
Birdman is 6’10″, so he could play center and let Amare stay at the power forward position all game, and not only when Mozgov is in.
In Denver, Anderson is playing about 16 minutes per game, and it seems like he is an expendable piece. Again, like Williams, Anderson averages about six rebounds per game.
While neither Williams nor Anderson are offensive threats, acquiring Anthony would bring in enough offense. A team that wants to contend for a title could never have enough defenders and rebounders.
While this is a long shot, J.R would excel in New York. Not only is he a sharpshooter, but he is also a high-flying dunker.
J.R Smith is yet another player from Denver that would bring tons of energy and ambition. Smith is not one to walk away from a fight…
With Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire both requiring double, and triple teams, someone will be open around the arc. J.R Smith is the perfect player because he can knock down the wide-open three, and he is also athletic enough to cut through the lane and get to the rim.
In Denver, J.R is shooting 36 percent from three. That number will only increase in New York because if you give a shooter a wide-open shot, he will knock it down. It would be a shooters dream to play with two superstars that demand double teams. Just look at what James Jones has done in Miami.
While it is unlikely for J.R to be included in a deal to the Knicks, he would be a perfect player in New York.
While J.R Smith is a long shot to be included in a deal, there is almost no chance Nene would be included. We can dream though, right?
Nene would be the PERFECT center in New York. Playing along side Amare Stoudemire, the Knicks would have probably the most athletic frontcourt in the league, and by far the most explosive.
Nene is averaging 15 points per game and seven rebounds per game in Denver.
I salivate at the thought of Nene on the Knicks. It’s tough to say who is a better fit on the Knicks, Nene or Carmelo Anthony.
If the Knicks are SOMEHOW able to pull off a trade that brings both Carmelo Anthony and Nene to the big apple, Donnie Walsh wins G.M of the year.
Nene is almost as athletic as Amare, and like J.R is not afraid of anyone. He would add the factor of intimidation to the Knicks not only on the offensive side, but the defensive end.
While Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum are a scary frontcourt to drive into, I would prefer to drive at them instead of Amare and Nene.
The Nuggets have many players that I would love to see on the Knicks. Obviously Carmelo Anthony is the most desired player and I would give up a lot for him, but the thought that Chris Anderson or Sheldon Williams are “add-ons” is incredible.
I’m most excited to see not if this deal happens, but who is included other then Carmelo Anthony from Denver.
