You could not write this Knicks season.
During Saturday night’s game against the Detroit Pistons, Amare Stoudemire and Jeremy Lin both left the game to be looked at in the locker room. Jeremy Lin came walking back onto the court at the start of the fourth quarter, but thanks to a comfortable lead, never re-entered the game. Stoudemire, on the other hand, stayed in the locker room.
During the game, there was not an injury to be seen. Both players entered the locker room and left the fans asking what was happening.
Then, an update:
Jeremy Lin had a sore knee and Amare Stoudemire had some tightness in his lower back.
Oh, boy. Every Knicks fan remembers Amare’s debilitating back injury last year, so when news surfaced about him re-injuring his back, everyone panicked.
But, after the game, during interviews, both Stoudemire and Lin gave positive statements. Lin said that the soreness in his knee was from “over use” and that he could’ve re-entered the game if the Knicks needed him. He also said that he would be good to go against the Bucks, tonight.
Stoudemire said his back tightened up, but also could have re-entered the game if the Knicks needed him to, and also said he would be ready to go for tonight’s matchup against the Bucks.
Fast-forward to tonight, we learn that Jeremy Lin and Amare Stoudemire will not play in tonight’s game.
Jeremy Lin’s knee is still sore, but feels better than Saturday, which makes his rest shocking, since he said he could play if the Knicks needed him, which the Knicks do. Tonight.
Jeremy Lin *should* be ready to go on Wednesday.
Now, the worst news.
An MRI revealed a bulging disk in Amare Stoudemire’s lower back and he’s out indefinitely.
This. is. Bad.
Amare will be away from the team tonight, because he’s in Miami getting a second opinion. The Knicks announced that Stoudemire will undergo “non-surgical” treatment, to rehab his back.
I’d be shocked if Amare Stoudemire played in another game this season.
