The 17th pick in the 2011 draft, Iman Shumpert was Donnie Walsh’s last “gift” to Knicks fans. The mix of cheers, boos, and “what the…who?!” permeated MSG the night Shump was drafted in the 1st round of a fairly deep draft. It didn’t take long, however, for the Garden to chant his name and for the NBA/Knicks Twitter-verse to explode with love for the rook!
James “Flight” White is known for his superb athleticism, but, unfortunately, he’s had a difficult time sticking in the league. The Knicks gave White a one-year, guaranteed deal at the start of the summer, and White elected to play with the youngins’ in Vegas, to work on his game. Seeing that he was the one guy with a guaranteed deal on the summer league team, one might expect him to drastically outplay the competition, but White did not. Sure, he looked better than the others, but not that much better. Luckily for White, due to injuries to Shumpert and now Brewer, it looks like he’ll see some playing time when the season roles around.
The 6’11 big man out of UMass came in to the league with a lot of fanfare. A storied college career capped by a run to the Final Four and a Wooden Award, before leaving after his junior season, led a lot of people to believe that Camby was destined for NBA greatness…and for the most part, they were right.
