G League Standout Trey Burke Joins Knicks, Ramon Sessions Waived

After lighting up the G League for the Westchester Knicks, Michigan product Trey Burke signs a contract with New York to join the big league team.

The New York Knicks have waived veteran guard Ramon Sessions on Saturday, according to the team.

In a subsequent move, the Knicks will sign Michigan product Trey Burke, who was playing with New York’s G League affiliate Westchester Knicks, to a contract for the remainder of the season, per The Vertical’s Shams Charania.

Ramon Sessions came to New York expecting to be the team’s starting point guard. However, after the Knicks’ 0–3 start to the season, head coach Jeff Hornacek gave Sessions the hook, and has started 34-year-old Jarrett Jack ever since. Sessions has only participated in 10 more games since then, 13 total, with the Knicks, averaging 3.7 points and 2.1 assists, per Basketball-Reference.

Trey Burke, on the other hand, is a 25-year-old who made waves in the G League, formerly known as the D-League. Burke was a teammate of current Knick Tim Hardaway Jr. and was drafted in 2013 by the Utah Jazz. After stints in Salt Lake City and Washington, D.C., the Knicks took a flier on Burke, signing him to Westchester. For the DubKnicks, Trey averaged 26.5 points and 5.3 assists, largely looking impressive in his time in White Plains.
